Hard soled beaded leather moccasins with fringe and vermillion pigment / Unidentified

Essay/Description

Moccasins with hard sole, partially beaded–yellow pigment on hide, white backgrounds with red and green pattern. Vermillion pigment between beaded bands on toe. Split fringe at heel and on toe, holds heel seam closed.

Curatorial Remarks

Osage use this style of moccasins by around 1900. This style of moccasins is pretty well associated with peyote church.
