Curatorial Remarks

Thomas Moran and Mary Nimmo Moran travelled throughout the British Isles in 1882, and visited Bolton, England, Thomas's birthplace. In this letter J. P. Thomasson of Bolton, mentions the Chadwick Museum, although it did not officially open until 1884. Its orgins, however, date to the founding of Bolton's first library in 1852. The Chadwick Museum was demolished in 1956 and its collections distributed to various museums and libaries including the Bolton Museum and Art Gallery.
